Learning Disabilities
Specific learning disability (SLD) refers to a disorder in one or more of the 7 basic psychological processes (auditory, visual, sensorimotor, attention, and, cognitive abilities including association, expression, and conceptualization) involved in understanding or using language, spoken or written, that may manifest itself in an imperfect ability to listen, think, speak, read, write, spell or perform mathematical calculations.
SLD is an unexpected academic underachievement.
Some Common Learning Disabilites include:
- Dyslexia-– pattern of learning difficulties characterized by problems with accurate or fluent word recognition, poor decoding, and poor spelling
- Dysgraphia- a pattern of writing challenges that impact handwriting, typing, and spelling.
- Dyscalculia-pattern of learning difficulties characterized by problems processing numerical information, learning arithmetic facts, and performing accurate or fluent calculations
- Attention- patterns associated with difficulty paying attention, distractibility, having hard time following through, interactivity, impulsivity, and more.
